GIZ reaches out to more cooperation partners on Alumni Day

by Ronaldo Limbago, Alumni Liaison Officer Philippines.

MAKATI City, Philippines,      14 May 2016,  Filipino alumni of German educational institutions and programs were invited to the first-ever Alumni Day organized by the German Embassy, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and GIZ to explore prospects for cooperation with these German-trained Filipino professionals.

Representatives of the German Government and German international organizations in the Philippines greeted the alumni and briefed them on their work and prospects for cooperation with their institutions—from Amb. Thomas Ossowski to the German Embassy’s Cultural Secretary Thorsten Gottfried, GIZ PH/PI Resident Director Dr. Andreas Kalk, Goethe Institut Manila’s Language Program Head Falk Schleicher, German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Trade Promotion Officer Camille Somera, and DAAD Country Representative Katharina McGrath.

The alumni eagerly recalled their happy days in Germany, demonstrated their facility with the German language, connected with the Germans and their fellow alumni, and discovered how they could grow and apply their skills in and through the participating German institutions. Lead event organizer GIZ Human Capacity Development and Alumni Coordinator Ronnie Limbago invited the alumni to join the portal Alumniportal Deutschland.org or to stay informed about Germany, their fellow alumni, and opportunities for contribution and further development. The alumni later trooped to the booths of GIZ and the other participating organizations to learn more about their offering.

A total of 102 persons representing the alumni and the representatives of the various German international cooperation organizations took part in the Alumni Day. With the success of the event, GIZ, the German Embassy and DAAD are looking forward to holding another one next year, the focus of which will be based on the feedback and evaluation gathered from the participants.
